Miyabi Henriksen, 20, began her violin studies at age 4. She is a sophomore violinist studying with Paul Kantor at Rice University. In the Houston area, she enjoys playing for various events and loves to tutor elementary and middle school violin students.

 

During her high school years, she studied with Herbert Greenberg at the Peabody Preparatory where she was the recipient of the Director’s Award and Elmer Burgess Award. Along with being concertmaster of the Peabody Youth Orchestra, she additionally solo debuted with the orchestra in high school. She also soloed with the Londontowne Symphony Orchestra, Columbia Orchestra, and again with the Peabody Youth Orchestra.

 

She has enjoyed performing for various events including those hosted by the Washington Performing Arts (WPA) and the Friday Morning Music Club (FMMC). Her favorite events include playing a musical tribute for Midori at the presentation of the WPA Ambassador of the Arts Award and performing at the residences of the Japanese Ambassador and Jaqueline Mars.

 

Miyabi looks forward to spending her summer at the Music Academy of the West. Last summer, she was a fellowship recipient at the Aspen Music Festival, where she was nominated for the Dorothy Delay Fellowship in 2023. The previous three summers were spent at the Meadowmount School of Music where she was a teaching assistant for Ivan Zenaty.
